Every 10% increase in net speed leads to 1.3% economic growth

South Africa’s IT Web news portal has an interesting article featuring Google’s trails to run broadband through unused television signal. The article is interesting in itself – but I found one sentence astounding:

According to the World Bank, every 10% increase in high-speed Internet connections leads to economic growth of 1.3%

Wouldn’t it be great if those pretending to pull the power strings in South Africa forgot about their flash cars and label whiskey for once and actually did something constructive about the comparatively slow speeds and high cost of broadband here.
